Crabby Challenge
Anyway, I decided to cook last night. Yeap, cook dinner for two. We came up with an agreement that each one of us make 2 dishes . Fair enough. So after stopping at Genting International [going to Genting Highlands (again) to celebrate his 26th birthday end of this month!] to make a room reservation, we proceeded to FairPrice. He couldn't find his main ingredient, chicken gizzard. He had planned to make black pepper gizzard. Then he declared that he's lost his mood cooking. CHEATING! Fine, I'd do everything myself. After spending about S$14 (damn cheap for a dinner), we went home. I started cleaning the stuff and then he said he needed a drink and a puff. CHEATING! I ended up doing everything ALONE!
Oh did I tell you that the main dish is:
and I'd just spent an hour that morning beautifying my neglected nails with DIY Sally Hansen French manicure?
First thing first. The soup. Soup takes long time to cook but it is easy peasy. Clean, chop and throw everything into the pot. Let it simmer in slow fire. Next, cleaning up the crabs. It was mad. My hands were poked and pricked. My nails! They tried to attack with those scary claws, I fought back with a big-ass chopping knife a la Ichigo with Zangetsu. And all the while he was slothing on the couch watching Bleach that I've spent countless hours dl-ing (DIRECT DL, btw. DIRECT DL! This thing won't let me use torrent. I dl my Bleach, Naruto & GetBackers DIRECT, ok. Imagine the horror), on the laptop. Actually it was partly my fault I got him hooked on Bleach.
This was my first time cleaning crabs anyway. However, I'd like to think I did a damn good job though I doubt I fancy doing it again in near future. I gotta tell you that even after I pulled the shell out, the thing's still moving... Ewww...
Didn't I do one heck of a good job!!!! The red yucky-looking thing's the eggs, if you're wondering.
Then... I realised I have forgotten something. Ingredients for the crab sauce! Argh! Searched high and low for spices and chillies... but his sister doesn't have any stocked up. Oh yeah I'm staying with the sis too. After a 10-minute frantic search, he found this tucked at the corner of the fridge:
Aah... what the heck... I'll have to do with this.
After slaving myself in the kitchen for, like, 2-3 hours.... I ended up with this:
this:
this:
and this....
Oh by the way, I passed with merits.... *Grins*
