Crabby Challenge

He doesn't really fancy my cooking. He said it's a bit tad too bland. No flair, whatever the toot that is. I'm no Jamie Oliver, excuse me.
Anyway, I decided to cook last night. Yeap, cook dinner for two. We came up with an agreement that each one of us make 2 dishes . Fair enough. So after stopping at Genting International [going to Genting Highlands (again) to celebrate his 26th birthday end of this month!] to make a room reservation, we proceeded to FairPrice. He couldn't find his main ingredient, chicken gizzard. He had planned to make black pepper gizzard. Then he declared that he's lost his mood cooking. CHEATING! Fine, I'd do everything myself. After spending about S$14 (damn cheap for a dinner), we went home. I started cleaning the stuff and then he said he needed a drink and a puff. CHEATING! I ended up doing everything ALONE!
Oh did I tell you that the main dish is:

and I'd just spent an hour that morning beautifying my neglected nails with DIY Sally Hansen French manicure?

First thing first. The soup. Soup takes long time to cook but it is easy peasy. Clean, chop and throw everything into the pot. Let it simmer in slow fire. Next, cleaning up the crabs. It was mad. My hands were poked and pricked. My nails! They tried to attack with those scary claws, I fought back with a big-ass chopping knife a la Ichigo with Zangetsu. And all the while he was slothing on the couch watching Bleach that I've spent countless hours dl-ing (DIRECT DL, btw. DIRECT DL! This thing won't let me use torrent. I dl my Bleach, Naruto & GetBackers DIRECT, ok. Imagine the horror), on the laptop. Actually it was partly my fault I got him hooked on Bleach.

This was my first time cleaning crabs anyway. However, I'd like to think I did a damn good job though I doubt I fancy doing it again in near future. I gotta tell you that even after I pulled the shell out, the thing's still moving... Ewww...

Didn't I do one heck of a good job!!!! The red yucky-looking thing's the eggs, if you're wondering.

Then... I realised I have forgotten something. Ingredients for the crab sauce! Argh! Searched high and low for spices and chillies... but his sister doesn't have any stocked up. Oh yeah I'm staying with the sis too. After a 10-minute frantic search, he found this tucked at the corner of the fridge:

Aah... what the heck... I'll have to do with this.

After slaving myself in the kitchen for, like, 2-3 hours.... I ended up with this:

and this....

Oh by the way, I passed with merits.... *Grins*

What Has She Done over the Past Week?

I haven't been blogging as much as I wanted. Perhaps it was the fact that I'm too lazy or I have got nothing to write about. Anyhow, my plan A isn't really working right now... I'm trying to stay optimistic but. Yes, there's always a BUT.
Apart from sending out my resume to potential employers very diligently, I met my old schoolmates 2 nights ago. Had a really nice sushi dinner at Sakae Sushi Century Square with February, Andrew (Seng Boon) & Irene + hubby. We proceeded to Swenson's for dessert. We had great time catching up and exchanging dirt bits (of others, of course!). SB's been promoted and posted to Ahmedabad (working for SIA, like Irene) for one year and leaving today... so we were kinda lucky to meet him up. The last time I've seen him was 2000. Go figure.

Me, Feb, Irene & Andrew at Swenson's.
Last night I made soup. Spent like S$20 on the veggies & meat but only used half of them. Groceries are goddamn cheap! One big bunch of celery's less than S$1!!! The used-to-be-empty fridge is now packed! Yay! No more hunger! (FYI, I'm lazy to go out get some lunch/dinner. I rather go hungry. Hey eating alone sucks la wei!)
Tonight Irene, Feb & I went out for dinner again. This time at Clarke Quay. We had barbeque dinner at I-forgot-the-name-something-with-Indonesia restaurant. Pretty cheap. Took some pictures afterwards. Irene took lousy pictures... but she compensated with working up her air-stewardess charm to get passers-by to take picture of three of us. She's damn good.

Then we went to Plaza Singapura for Irene needed to get a new cargo bag for she's busted hers. There wasn't any to be found. Decided to call it early for Irene's got some safety training/test to attend tomorrow morning. Gave them some free chocs... :)
Met him up since I was around the area. Had supper (black pepper crab!!! oh la la) at nearby foodcourt but couldn't finish them. Doggy-bagged it and he helped me finish, so here I am, blogging.
As for tomorrow, I've planned to go the Arts Museum. Yes, I finally found it. It's at Bras Basah. It's free admission from 6pm to 9pm every Friday so I'm gonna take advantage of that. Til then.

Art Tart

Finally dragged myself to go to a museum few days ago. Truth be told, I wanted to go the Arts Museum where contemporary arts are exhibited. In a true Rae fashion, I got lost. I couldn’t find that museum. I even asked the Singapore Visitors Centre at Liang Court but she had not the faintest idea where I wanted to go. She asked if it was MICA. I have not a clue what the heck was MICA and I said no. She showed me another map and there was something called The Art House marked near the Parliament House. Aching feet, I decided to go there instead. I later found out MICA stands for Ministry of Information, something starts with C (Culture) and Arts.
Must be one of the times God decided to have a laugh or something like that. The Art House didn’t hold any arts at all, if you don’t count colonial architectural as art. The Art House was the old Parliament, I think. I walked and walked. Oh la la I saw a sign read ‘museum entrance this way’. It was The Asian Civilisations Museum, Empress Place. It is currently holding an exhibition ‘Power Dressing’, featuring 125 silken treasures from the private collection of Chris Hall, ranging from the Warring States period to the Qing Dynasty. After walking aimlessly for almost 2 hours I paid S$8 for a ticket and went inside. I was pretty beat up thus I didn’t really have the energy and concentration to enjoy the first gallery. The museum has a total of 7 galleries altogether. I can hardly remember what’s displayed on the first gallery. I think it was something about Singapore Colonial times. There was a display of ancient opium thingamajig. Then there were old Chinese boats called ‘tongkang’ and ‘tuakow”. And yes, a rubber ducky that won a competition.
Hmm… the second gallery. Oh my god, my memory’s failing me. I can’t remember. I guess it’s due to the fact that it was an impromptu and disorganized visit. And the fact that I have a 6 pm appointment with my buddy, Yong. Kinda cramped, ain’t it? Original dumb-dumb.
The tour ended with a visit to the museum shop, which was managed by the Banyan Tree. It was already 5.30pm by then. Didn’t have much time to browse in the shop. Had an eye on a notebook. It has a rooster motif on the cover but it costs S$15. Hey hey being unemployed has stripped the privilege of spending blindly off yours truly. I settled on two small distinct notepads that were on 50% discount. Haha I’d dare bet $1000 that you wouldn’t be able to guess what makes the notepads so distinct. It was the material that been used to make them. It was ELEPHANT DUNG. ^__^ Ain’t that lovely!
God decided to play a little game with me again. I walked and walked to find a taxi stand. I stopped at a bus stand after a 10-minute walk. Destination: Clarke Quay MRT station. There must be like 10 cabs that I tried to hail but they didn’t stop for me. What the @#%$. Looked a round. Lo and behold! The friggin’ MRT station was just across the street. Never felt so stupid in my life before. And what’s pissing me off was that this exit was nearer to the museums than the exit the MRT customer service personnel recommended. -_________-
